Nigel de Jong is an animal

4 Oct

This page was created with the express purpose of documenting the animalistic and downright callous actions of Manchester City’s Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong.

Clearly on record well within the last 12 month period this ‘player’ has broken the legs of two football players, as well as committing the ridiculous ‘tackle’ on Xabi Alonso in the World Cup Final. A tackle that broke one of Alonso’s ribs, prompting him to label it “the worst tackle I have ever suffered”.

The actions of Nigel de Jong are simply inexcusable, but sadly due to failings in the various footballing associations and systems this ‘player’ will go unpunished for the crimes that have been committed. I call them crimes because they extend well beyond the reaches of regular foul play on the football field. Were they to be committed elsewhere he would clearly be up for criminal charges.

The most recent foul play from de Jong occurred in the Premier League match between his side, Manchester City and Newcastle United on Sunday 3rd of October 2010. Newcastle’s new signing Hatem Ben Arfa had had an excellent start to the season, scoring a wonderful goal in a 1-0 victory over Everton. The Manchester City match was just his fourth appearance for Newcastle and it lasted less than 10 minutes after Nigel de Jong unleashed a scissor tackle on Ben Arfa that directly resulted in a break to both the tibia and fibula of Hatem’s left leg. Whilst Hatem lay in agony on the ground Nigel de Jong is clearly seen high fiving his own players in what could only be considered disrespectful, disgraceful and downright indefensible behaviour.

This was indeed not the first time that Nigel de Jong had broken the leg of an opposing player with a horrible tackle, as just seven months earlier he fractured the fibula of American Stuart Holden in an international ‘friendly’ played as a warm up to the World Cup.

Over a period far less than 12 months Nigel de Jong has broken the legs of two players and the rib of another. His punishment? Two yellow cards, which outside the realms of football carry with them no penalties whatsover unlike the crippling injuries enforced by de Jong upon Hatem Ben Arfa and Stuart Holden.
